Property Crime Higher in St. Louis Than Similar US Cities
Missouri’s nickname as the “Show me” state might unfortunately also mean “show me your money, jewelry and electronics” in St. Louis, it’s most famous city. St. Louis, home to the Cardinals baseball team and the famous Gateway arch sculpture, saw 271 property crimes reported in its neighborhoods in the past two weeks.
St. Louis’ population currently totals 317,419. Property crime in St. Louis increased 0.1% in 2017 when compared to 2016, from 18,923 crimes to 18,945 crimes, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Dept. St. Louis’ population totals 311.404. In comparison, Riverside CA, population 319,504, had a property crime totals of 11,266 for a similar period.

Property Crime Happens Every Four Seconds
A property crime occurs about every 4 seconds in the U.S. For 2016, the most recent year with complete data analysis, the FBI tallied 7,919,035 property crimes. The data found a slight decline in burglaries and larceny theft. Preliminary FBI data analyzed for the first half of 2017 shows these slight declines continuing.
The 2016 data translates into:

A larceny theft every 5.6 seconds
A motor vehicle theft every 41.3 seconds
